A brief history of our region
Sorel-Tracy, located in Montérégie, has a rich history dating back to New France. Founded in 1642, it was a major trading post on the Saint Lawrence River. Evolving into an industrial and maritime center, the city now boasts a rich historical heritage, including the Governors' House from 1842. The region, named after navigator Pierre de Saurel, attracts tourists with its waterways, farmlands, hiking trails, bike paths, natural parks, festivals, and gastronomy.
